US Coast Guard Renewal - FAQ
What do I do if my Coast Guard Documentation (COD) is up for renewal?
The US Coast Guard (USCG) will send a renewal notice to the managing owner of your vessel, at the address listed on your (COD)
When will I receive this renewal notice?
Approximately one month prior to expiry. If you do not receive your renewal notice, you must contact the USCG no later than two weeks prior to expiry
What will the renewal notice look like?
USCG renewals (Form CG-1280) will be sent from the Department of Homeland Security – U.S. Coast Guard.
Please see the example shown below; any form that claims to be from the USCG but does not look like this, should be disregarded

Can I renew for multiple years?
Yes, recreational Certificate of Documentation (COD) holders may elect to extend the expiration date of renewed CODs for an additional 2-5 years
